A very sunny thank you!

Well that was an amazing three weeks! We’re absolutely thrilled at the response to Luke Jerram’s Helios and the staggering number of people who came to visit it.

There are lots of people we want to thank for making this event such a success:

  • Luke Jerram and his team for giving us such an amazing opportunity, for all their hard work that went into installing it, then helping to promote the event.
  • Our lovely Jubilee staff and team of volunteers, turning up at the crack of dawn and staying late into the night to keep the sun shining. Not forgetting all of those who worked behind the scenes on volunteer rotas, ticket sales, publicity, social media, merchandise and so much more. Thank you to everyone who helped — we couldn’t have done it without you.
  • A special thank you to Trustee Rachel (who really should have just set up a camp bed at the pool over those three weeks!), who has been awarded the Lord Mayor’s Medal for her unwavering dedication to the pool.
  • All of you who visited, swam under the sun, took pictures, shared the event with family and friends, bought merchandise, donated and were generally so enthusiastic about the event.

Visitors came from as far and wide as London, Wales and Newcastle. We also welcomed local people who hadn’t visited the pool since they were a child many years ago, and those who live around the corner but hadn’t been to this gem of a community pool. They loved how warm it was, how welcoming the staff and volunteers were, and the fact it’s run by the community.

In total, Helios raised a staggering £50,600 which will go towards solar panels for the roof. And as well as the much-needed financial gains, it’s a lasting legacy that’s firmly placed Jubilee in the hearts of people all across Bristol and beyond.
